At Flushing United Methodist Church, we believe that God has called us to a three-fold mission: Birthing Believers, Developing Disciples, Meaningful Ministry
This three-fold mission is rooted in three key concepts: Grace, Growth, Giving
Through the gift of Grace– God’s undeserved, unconditional, unlimited love acting in ourlives – believers are called to be God’s mid-wives, assisting in the Birthing of Believers. In concert with God’s Holy Spirit, we engage seekers in genuine relationships effectively communicating and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ and extending the invitation of a life-giving, life-transforming relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
As Developing Disciples, believers experience Spiritual Growth - a deepening partnership with God - by participating in a life-long apprenticeship with Jesus Christ. Under the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit, believers become ‘imitators of Christ’ as they are nurtured individually and in the community of the church through worship, study, service, rest, recreation and reclamation of the Sabbath. Meaningful Ministry happens when believers are generously Giving– investing our lives and our resources for the glory of God without expecting compensation or personal gain – to build up the church, invest in the lives of others and meet the needs of neighbors across the street and around the world. Acknowledging and acting upon God-given gifts, talents and passions, believers accept the challenge to participate in ministries that are meaningful, through faith in Jesus Christ and reliance on God’s Holy Spirit.
