Small Groups @ FUMC
Beginning January 2010, Flushing United Methodist Church is making the transition to become a church of small groups. We believe this is an important step in becoming the church that God want us to become. Becoming a church of small groups will always be a work in progress, but here is an overview of the small group model at Flushing UMC:
Small groups will be:
A place where people feel welcomed, wanted, and safe
An environment that promotes openness and honesty
A place of intentional personal spiritual growth and numerical growth as new members are invited into the group, with the understanding of the possibility that the group may divide to maintain a small group size
A place to receive prayer and support
Confidential – what happens in small group stays in small group
A place of intentional attendance and participation
Primary vehicle for discipling to take place
A place where disciples intentionally put their relationship with Jesus Christ first and foremost in their lives
A place where disciples encourage and support one another to live faithfully after the teachings and example of Jesus Christ
Small Groups will not be:
Cliquey, elite or unsafe
Overpowered by one person or one person’s opinions
Exclusive or closed
An accountability group
A center for gossip
Our Small Groups meet for three six-week modules through the year. For more information, please contact Lore Dearing or Jeff Jaggers through e-mail or a phone call.
